By Road
Tarragona is located between Barcelona and Valencia on the National Autovia N340 and on the Autopista AP-7.
On the N340 follow signs for "Centre Ciutat" which will lead you to the Plaça Imperial Tarraco, a large roundabout with trees in the centre. On the AP-7 (a toll road) take exit 33 and follow signs to Tarragona which will also lead you to the Plaça Imperial Tarraco. Our offices are on Rambla Nova, at number 127, immediately adjacent to the Plaça. There is an underground car park at the beginning of Rambla Nova immediately opposite our offices.
If driving to Tarragona from Barcelona or Valencia, it is certainly preferable to take the AP-7. It is a far quicker route, although more expensive given the tolls.
If driving to Tarragona from Madrid, follow signs for Zaragoza. However, it is advisable to take the train (there are regular train services) or to fly (Iberia has regular flights from Madrid to Reus airport) as the journey from Madrid takes 5 or 6 hours by car.
By Rail
Tarragona is on the mainline between Barcelona and Valencia. Trains from Barcelona make regular and frequent stops at Tarragona. The 'Regional' trains are bound for Tortosa and Reus and are far cheaper than the 'largo recorrido' trains bound for Valencia and other more distant locations.
By Air
Barcelona airport is 85 kms from Tarragona and is serviced by almost all international airlines. If flying to Barcelona it is advisable to hire a car at the airport and drive for just under one hour to Tarragona, first on the C32 and then on the AP-7. While a taxi from Barcelona to Tarragona is likely to be rather pricey (at least 100 Euros at a conservative estimate), there is a train service which runs every half an hour from the airport to Sants, a main Barcelona train station. From there you can take a train into Tarragona.
Reus airport is in the province of Tarragona and about a ten minute drive from the city of Tarragona. It is serviced by Ryanair. As in Barcelona a car may be hired from the airport. Alternatively, taxis are always available to bring you into town.
By Bus
There are regular but infrequent bus services running from Barcelona airport to Tarragona. Whether at the airport or in the centre of Barcelona, it is far more convenient and cheaper to take the train.
By Sea
You can arrive at Tarragona by sea. The coordinates of the Port of Tarragona are latitude 41º 0,5' north and longitude 1º, 14' east. |
